A loaded 30-game, 15-team slate is on tap for Tuesday across Major League Baseball. Among the matchups to watch, the rival Yankees and Guardians meet once again in Cleveland. Elsewhere, the Phillies and Mets will take the field following Monday’s dramatic 5-4 New York win. Later, the Dodgers and Cubs face off at Wrigley Field in a battle of playoff contenders.

Jack Flaherty less than 5.5 strikeouts
Detroit, with a record of 14-9, has built its AL Central lead thanks to pitching. Even without Cy Young winner Tarik Skubal, the Tigers have built a lethal rotation of veterans and promising arms. That includes Jack Flaherty, who signed on for his second career stint with the team this offseason. Through four starts, the 29-year-old has recorded a 2.53 ERA to go with 25 strikeouts and a 1.08 WHIP.
As good as those numbers are, last week’s appearance vs. Milwaukee (4.2 IP, 3 ER) wasn’t ideal. Flaherty will have a much tougher task tonight against a Padres team that knows how to take pitches. This season, San Diego has struck out 6.43 times per game, the lowest mark in baseball. The right-hander might find success on Tuesday, but it likely won’t come via punch outs.
Bryce Miller more than 5.5 strikeouts
Much like Detroit, the Mariners have assembled one of the sport’s best pitching staffs. It’s been a mixed bag for Bryce Miller; in spite of a solid ERA (3.43), he’s put plenty of runners on base (1.33 WHIP). However, the starter has seen his K/9 ratio rise to a career-best 9.0. Going forward, it’s fair to expect even better numbers from the 26-year-old.
That should be the case on Tuesday against a free-swinging Red Sox team. Through 24 contests, Boston ranks third in the league in strikeouts per game (9.38). Last spring, Miller notched six strikeouts over five innings vs. the BoSox. Following an eight-K performance last Wednesday, Seattle’s young arm is poised for success tonight.
Francisco Lindor more than 1.5 hits + runs + RBIs
It took some time, but Francisco Lindor is finally back on track. Following a rough first few weeks, the All-Star has hit .429 with four home runs and seven RBIs during his previous ten games. That includes Monday’s two-homer performance against elite Phillies pitching.
The Mets will hope for an encore tonight against Philadelphia when Christoper Sanchez takes the mound. Lindor has gone 3-for-9 in his career against the starter. However, as a switch-hitter, there’s a good chance he can get something going on Tuesday. For his career, Sanchez has allowed a .260 batting average to right-handed hitters. In the midst of a hot streak, it’s impossible to fade New York’s face of the franchise right now.
Davis Martin more than 2.5 earned runs allowed
Once again, the White Sox and their 5-17 record are a national embarrassment. The rebuilding South Siders don’t have much talent at the major league level, including their rotation. One of the staff ‘aces’ is Davis Martin (4.84 ERA, 1.48 WHIP). Following a decent 2024 campaign, the 28-year-old has gotten off to a rough start. In his most recent start, vs. the Athletics, he was tagged for four runs over 5.1 innings.
Tonight, Chicago will go on the road for an AL Central showdown against the Twins. In his career, Minnesota has tagged Martin for 13 earned runs over 10.1 innings (11.32 ERA). In addition, the White Sox have let the right-hander go at least five innings in all three of his starts this year. This is the perfect combination of bad matchup and enough innings to go over this total.
Byron Buxton more than 0.5 RBIs
Let’s stay in Minneapolis, where the Twins will hope to hammer the White Sox. Byron Buxton is key to Minnesota’s success, regardless of the opponent. The perpetually injured outfielder has gotten off to a decent start in 2024. Through 20 games, he’s recorded a .244 batting average, four home runs and ten RBIs.
As previously mentioned, Chicago starter Davis Martin has pitched to an 11.32 ERA over three starts vs. Minnesota. If another poor outing occurs tonight, the Twins should have plenty of traffic on the base paths. Buxton has tallied an RBI and at least two hits in three of his last four appearances this season. It’s fair to expect another productive evening from the former All-Star on Tuesday.
Jose Quintana less than 2.5 earned runs allowed
Despite missing several starters, the Brewers have managed to stay above .500 through the first month of the season. Much of the credit goes to a pitching staff filled with savvy, under-the-radar signings. That includes Jose Quintana; over 12.2 innings pitched, he’s surrendered one earned run (0.71 ERA). Despite a lack of strikeouts (six), the veteran has a knack for inducing weak contact.
Quintana doesn’t induce many whiffs, but that also allows him to pitch deeper into games. Over eight career starts at Oracle Park, opponents have hit just .212 against the 36-year-old. The Giants have also hit .212 this season when facing left-handed pitchers. A pro’s pro such as Quintana is a solid pick to log five efficient innings during tonight’s West Coast matchup.
