Just eight teams will take the field for Saturday night’s four-game MLB slate. However, there’s still a few enticing wagers available on DraftKings Sportsbook. Before the start of this evening’s contests, here are three MLB bets worth placing
Padres vs. Astros under 7.5 runs (-105)
Two World Series contenders will meet on Saturday when the Astros host the Padres. San Diego has enjoyed a phenomenal start, pacing all of baseball with 15 wins. The same can’t be said for Houston, owners of a 9-10 record. In this matchup, the visitors will send All-Star Michael King to the mound. The righty has been dominant through four starts, posting a 2.42 ERA and 24 strikeouts. On the other side, Hayden Wesneski will get the nod. Over his last two starts (13.0 innings), the 27-year-old has surrendered five earned runs.
Both arms are entering this contest with some momentum, but the same can’t be said for either lineup. The Astros have scored a total of 12 runs over their last four games, continuing a worrying early season trend. Through 19 games, the offense has scored the eighth-fewest runs in baseball (3.79). That’s unlikely to change against King, who has held Houston to three total runs in two career starts. The Padres hit much better at Petco Park, recording only the 16th-most runs per game on the road (3.57). Keeping that in mind, Wesneski can go toe-to-toe with San Diego’s ace tonight.
Athletics ML (+105)
Nine wins in 20 games doesn’t mean much for most teams, but it’s a promising sign for the Athletics. The front office spent significant assets on pitching depth this winter, and their moves have paid off so far. Starters Jeffrey Springs and Luis Severino have been solid, leading a new-look A’s rotation. The latter of the two comes into tonight’s game on a high note, allowing one run over 5.2 innings vs. the Mets last Sunday.
After a rough first week, the Brewers have won 11 of their last 16 games. That includes a two-run win over the Athletics on Friday night. However, Milwaukee will send out unproven hurler Chad Patrick on Saturday. Despite pitching well over four outings (1.76 ERA), it remains to be seen if the righty’s success is sustainable. The A’s are a better hitting team away from Sacramento, scoring the fifth-most road runs per game (5.27). An underrated lineup and a pitching advantage at plus money…what’s not to like?
