MLB Prop Bets for Friday, April 18, 2025
Adley Rutschman over 1.5 H/R/RBI -120
As noted above, the Reds-Orioles game is expected to be windy. Winds will be blowing out toward left field at around 15 mph in comfortable 70-degree weather, perfect for a switch-hitter facing a lefty. Andrew Abbott is taking the mound for the Reds and is a very heavy four-seam fastball pitcher. He throws it 53% of the time, and it’s a pitch that Rutschman has handled very well. Since last season, against a lefty, Rutschman has a .467 wOBA with a .293 ISO against that pitch. The Orioles, overall, hit fastballs from lefties well. Tonight’s expected lineup has a combined .391 wOBA with a .286 ISO. If that trend continues tonight, Rutschman should be in a great position to exceed 1.5 H/R/RBI.

Houston Astros under 13.5 total bases -120
Listen, Kyle Hart isn’t exactly a pitcher I’m looking to back on a given night. He’s been a below-average pitcher thus far, sporting a 5.40 ERA and an xERA of 4.07 with a 5.14 FIP. However, you know who else has been below average this season? The Astros’ offense. They’ve seen the fewest lefties in the league to this point, but they are slashing .129/.229/.194 with a .205 wOBA against them through 71 plate appearances. Overall, they’re slashing .216/.300/.317 with a .280 wOBA. It’s been really bad. The drop-off this lineup endures is quite dramatic, which is why I’m targeting the under on their total bases. It’s essentially been Jose Altuve who’s hitting for them. The Padres’ bullpen has also been highly effective to this point, putting the cherry on top of what I think is a good spot to target.

Freddie Freeman over 1.5 total bases +120
Betting against Jacob deGrom wouldn’t have been an ideal play years ago, but that has changed. We haven’t seen much of deGrom, as he’s pitched only 55.2 innings over the last three years. One notable aspect this season has been his struggles against lefties. They’ve produced a .458 wOBA with a 10.25 FIP and all four home runs he’s allowed. DeGrom throws his four-seam fastball and slider 80% of the time, and Freeman hits both pitches extremely well. Dating back to last season, he has a .394 wOBA and a .277 ISO against the four-seam and a .446 wOBA and a .273 ISO against the slider. Hopefully, he can make solid contact on one of those pitches and cash the over on his total bases at +120.
Double Play Parlay: Yankees/Athletics over 0.5 defensive double plays +182
I talked about this market yesterday, and we hit our first “Double Play Parlay.” This is a market I’m digging lately, betting on a team to turn a defensive double play. So, when you bet on one of these, the team needs to turn the double play, not hit into one. Last night, the parlay won after the Yankees turned a double play, followed by the Angels, who did it in a unique way. Kyle Higashioka popped out to foul territory, and then Angels catcher Logan O’Hoppe threw out Jake Burger at first base.
For tonight, we’re going back to the Yankees to turn a double play with Carlos Rodon on the mound. He’s inducing ground balls at a career-high 54%, a massive leap from his 39% last year. The Rays continue to hit many grounders, doing so 47% of the time. We’re also adding the Athletics, who’ll be starting a sinkerball pitcher in JT Ginn. He throws his sinker nearly 60% of the time. In 39.1 innings in the majors, he’s induced ground balls 50% of the time.
