BREAK IT DOWN:
Aaron Judge 1+ Home Runs (+165): Think I cracked the case on this one, guys. Judge has hit 26 more home runs than any other person in MLB since the beginning of 2022. It does not come as a shock that the public is excited to back him on Tuesday night to hit another — especially at home in the hitter-friendly confines of Yankee Stadium. However, it’s probably worth noting that Royals starter Michael Wacha has only allowed 0.94 opponent long balls per nine dating back to the beginning of 2023, which is one of the lowest qualified marks in baseball. Also, in 21 career at-bats versus the RHP, Judge is 1-for-21 with zero homers and 12 strikeouts.
Kyle Schwarber 1+ Home Runs (+295): When I said that the aforementioned Judge had hit 26 more home runs than anyone else dating back to 2022, I neglected to mention that said player 26 long balls back was Kyle Schwarber. The veteran is off to another impressive start in 2025, sitting in a tie for the league lead in homers with six. Schwarber is also in possession of a 99th percentile hard hit rate (61.9%) and a 97th percentile expected wOBA (.459). But why are people excited to back him to go deep specifically tonight? It probably has something to do with Justin Verlander looking washed. The 42-year-old owns a 6.92 ERA through three starts this season and, in 2024, Verlander allowed a whopping 1.90 home runs per nine to opposing LHBs.
Brent Rooker 1+ Home Runs (+310): Rooker has been a bit of a disappointment to start 2025 after a breakout campaign in 2024. Still, four of the 13 hits he’s managed have left the park and Rooker’s .360 expected wOBA suggests the slugger has been getting a little unlucky so far this season. Maybe the public is banking on his fortune changing this evening in Chicago against Sean Burke. It makes some sense. It’s a small sample, but Burke is currently conceding 2.03 opponent home runs per nine and, as you might expect, that’s translated to an ugly 9.01 xERA. I could certainly see Rooker getting back on track this evening in a big way.
