Per the Atlanta Hawks, point guard Trae Young is questionable for the last game of the season tomorrow against the Orlando Magic due to injury management. The injury is listed as right Achilles tendinitis.
Young, 26, recorded 36 points and 11 assists last night in a 124-110 victory over the Philadelphia 76ers. The performance by the three-time All-Star secured the eighth seed for the Hawks. That is likely the root cause of this “injury.” There’s no doubt Young is nursing something — everyone is banged up this time of year — but with Atlanta unable to move up or down in the standings, it makes little sense to risk aggravating anything.
After Atlanta and Orlando face off on Sunday, they will again play in the 7-8 matchup of the Play-In Tournament in Orlando next week. The winner will move on to face the defending champion Boston Celtics. Both will rest numerous rotation players to end the regular season as they prepare for the winner-take-all showdown, with Young likely among those sitting.
