Major League Baseball has a juicy 13-game slate available on DraftKings this Friday night with some great matchups headed into the weekend. Several teams are at the top of their rotation, so we have some aces in the mix, but some great hitting options are also on the board since some teams are running out their fifth starters. SP Sean Newcomb, Boston Red Sox at Chicago White Sox, $6,300
The White Sox are a favorable enough matchup to make almost any opposing starting pitcher a strong value play, and they’ll get a new series underway at home against Boston on Friday. The White Sox have dropped eight straight games and scored only three runs total in their last three games. They lost Andrew Benintendi (adductor), Mike Tauchman (hamstring) and Korey Lee (ankle) to the injured list this week, leaving them even thinner on offense. The team is hitting just .199 with the worst team wOBA in the MLB at just .263.
Newcomb has made two starts this season for the Red Sox, totaling nine strikeouts in 8 2/3 innings while allowing five runs on 14 hits. He looked much sharper in his last outing against the Cardinals, working around trouble for 4 2/3 innings to earn 12.5 fantasy points in a no-decision. In spring training, Newcomb had 13 strikeouts in 14 1/3 innings while giving up just one earned run.
Even though he hasn’t been dominant, Newcomb has shown enough upside to be worth considering at just over $6,000 since the White Sox have been such a favorable matchup recently.
1B/3B Josh Smith, Texas Rangers at Seattle Mariners, $3,100
Smith got Wednesday off against a lefty but should return to the lineup against Bryce Miller ($8,500). Smith had been filling in for Josh Jung ($3,500; neck) at 3B, but now that Jung is back, the versatile Smith could get more playing time in the outfield while Wyatt Langford (oblique) is on the injured list.
So far this season, Smith is 8-for-26 (.308) with six walks, two doubles, a home run, and three stolen bases. He had nine fantasy points on Tuesday with a single, a walk, and two runs scored. He has at least that many fantasy points in four of his last five games. Smith can slot at either corner infield spot and bring nice salary relief along with both power and speed potential as the Rangers head to Seattle to face a divisional opponent.
OF Derek Hill, Miami Marlins vs. Washington Nationals, $3,100
Hill made an early entry for catch of the year against the Mets on Tuesday night:

He also added a home run and had 16 fantasy points in that game before getting Wednesday off. That was his seventh game of the season, and he has at least nine fantasy points in five of those seven games while producing an average of 9.4 fantasy points per contest.
On the season, Hill is hitting .269 with one home run, two stolen bases, and a .357 wOBA. He should be back in the lineup in a good matchup against lefty Mitchell Parker ($7,900). Last season, Hill hit .306 against southpaws like Parker with a .417 wOBA and 172 wRC+. He has had a high strikeout rate throughout his career but brings enough power and speed potential to make him a good value at this salary against Parker on Friday night in Miami.
