After receiving his 18th technical foul of the season in Friday’s game against the Brooklyn Nets, Timberwolves star guard Anthony Edwards will miss the final game of the season on Sunday, pending an appeal.

Minnesota’s franchise player will receive his second suspension this season for technical fouls. Barring a successful appeal, he will be forced to miss a crucial Game 82 against the Utah Jazz. Coincidentally, his last suspension came against those same Jazz, a game Minnesota lost 117-116. It couldn’t come at a worse time for the Wolves. Minnesota, pending tonight’s results, will have several seeding scenarios on the line come Sunday.

A loss to these Jazz would all but guarantee Minnesota finishes as the eighth seed in the Western Conference. Even without Edwards, Minnesota is the far better team than the league-worst Jazz, but nothing is certain. Minnesota is 1-2 this season without the Ant-Man, including the aforementioned loss to the Jazz. Its other loss without Edwards came against the 17-win Washington Wizards.

With an appeal coming, we will provide further updates on Edwards’ status for Sunday’s game.
