On Tuesday, the Cincinnati Reds placed second baseman Matt McLain on the 10-day injured list with a hamstring injury.

The timing and wording give some hope to Reds fans. “Slight hamstring strain” is unusual and optimistic wording for an IL designation. The retroactive nature to 4/5 seems to indicate Cincinnati thought an injured list stint could be avoided. Nobody wants to see a young stud getting hurt early, but this is the best case scenario.
It’s been a rocky start for McLain since entering the league. He was an extremely productive rookie in 2023 before missing the entire 2024 season with a shoulder injury. Now, after a slow-ish start at the plate, McLain has more injury time on the docket. Hopefully, he will have a swift recovery and return to the lineup. Reds fans need it.
