Tuesday offers up a loaded 15-game MLB slate for baseball fans. That includes several high-profile matchups, including a battle between two NL East rivals in the Phillies and Braves. Elsewhere, the star-studded Rangers travel to Chicago to take on the Cubs at Wrigley Field. Tarik Skubal more than 1.5 runs allowed
It hasn’t been an ideal start to the 2025 MLB season for Tarik Skubal. The reigning American League Cy Young winner has stumbled out of the gate, allowing seven runs over two starts. The lefty will make his first appearance of the year at Comerica Park, where he recorded a 1.99 ERA in 2024. That should give Tigers fans hope that the last two weeks were a mere speed bump.
However, Detroit’s ace will have to deal with an elite Yankees offense on Tuesday. This season, New York leads the American League in runs scored (76), carried by two-time MVP Aaron Judge. In ten games against left-handed pitching, the Pinstripes are hitting .297 with 13 home runs. Skubal’s struggles are unlikely to continue, but this is a tough matchup for any pitcher. Expect a good, not great, performance from the southpaw this afternoon.
Masyn Winn less than 0.5 hits
Following a brutal start at the plate, Masyn Winn has begun to turn things around. The shortstop has recorded a hit over his last five games, bringing his batting average up to .243. There’s plenty of available at-bats for the youngster on a Cardinals team that ranks fourth in runs scored (62).
St. Louis’ hitters have been impressive thus far, but it’s hard to imagine another stellar performance tonight. The Cards will take on superstar hurler Paul Skenes and the Pirates on Tuesday. Over 25 career starts, Pittsburgh’s ace has pitched to a 1.92 ERA. Most batters tend to struggle against a generational talent, and Winn is no exception. The 23-year-old has notched one hit over ten at-bats vs. Skenes. The odds are clearly in favor of the man on the mound in this one.
Christopher Morel less than 1.5 hits + runs + RBIs
As usual, the Rays have filled their lineup with versatile, albeit flawed, players. No batter sums up that sentence better than Christoper Morel. The former Cubs prospect has immense power, recording 63 home runs and a .194 ISO over four MLB seasons. However, he’s also struck out 435 times during that stretch, tied for the 25th-worst mark in baseball.
Morel hasn’t done much so far, contributing five hits over eight games in 2025. Assuming the infielder gets the start tonight, he’ll face Kyle Hendricks on the mound. Los Angeles’ offseason acquisition has never possessed elite stuff, but he knows how to get batters out. The veteran has pitched six innings of two-run ball in each of his two starts this season. Morel has hit just .233 against right-handed pitching throughout his career. Going up against a former teammate, success at the plate might prove difficult on Tuesday.
Pablo Lopez less than 2.5 runs allowed
Sitting at 3-7, not much has gone right so far for the Twins. However, Pablo Lopez has gotten off to a great start. Over two appearances, the pitcher has surrendered just three runs over 12.0 innings (2.25 ERA). Most recently, he tossed seven innings of one-run ball in Chicago vs. the White Sox.
Lopez will look to carry that momentum into Tuesday’s showdown with the Royals. Kansas City’s roster is built on pitching and defense; other than Bobby Witt Jr., this lineup lacks star power. Minnesota’s All-Star hurler has thrived in this matchup, allowing four runs over his previous 22.0 innings vs. KC. Another terrific outing is to be expected for Lopez when he takes on a mediocre offense.
Justin Turner more than 1.5 hits + runs + RBIs
In an otherwise mediocre NL Central, the Cubs appear poised to make a return to the postseason. Most of the headlines have centered around offseason acquisition Kyle Tucker, and for good reason. However, Chicago made some other under-the-radar moves this winter, including a deal for veteran Justin Turner. The 40-year-old hasn’t hit his stride yet, recording a .200 batting average over seven games. Still, he’s earned his reputation as a ‘professional at-bat’.
Chicago’s hitters will face an ideal opponent on Tuesday in Rangers starter Patrick Corbin. The lefty was atrocious last season with the Nationals, pitching to a 5.62 ERA. Turner has owned this matchup historically, accounting for 17 hits over 42 career at-bats (.405 BA). Making his first start of the season, it’s anyone’s guess as to how the southpaw will pitch tonight. A big performance from this Cubs lineup, and its oldest member, feels more than likely.
Freddy Peralta more than 6.5 strikeouts
The Brewers have suffered a slew of injuries to their pitching staff, leaving the team short-handed on arms. Fortunately, ace Freddy Peralta remains one of baseball’s more reliable starters. Through two starts, the former All-Star has given up three runs over 13.0 innings. During that time, he’s punched out 16 batters.
Pitching in Denver’s high altitude presents a unique set of challenges for any pitcher. However, this is a spot Peralta has succeeded in before. The 28-year-old struck out ten Rockies over six innings the last time he visited Coors Field in 2023. No other team has whiffed at a higher rate than the Rockies this season (28.6%). Milwaukee’s flamethrower is poised to dominate once again during tonight’s contest.
