Watch out, pitchers. Yordan Alvarez is heating up.
The Astros slugger got off to a rough start, batting 1-for-16 in his first five games. It’s no surprise that one of the best natural hitters in the league has returned to form. Now, Houston’s 3X All-Star is 5-for-17 over his last four games and slugged his first homer last night against Minnesota.
Tonight’s tilt will test that hot streak. Mariners righty Logan Gilbert has been a stud since stepping on a big league mound. Can Alvarez continue his upward trajectory? Or will his momentum be halted?
On DraftKings Sportsbook, Houston is the road underdog at +140, and the run total is set at 7. Below, I’ve highlighted my favorite prop bet for this contest.

Over 1.5 Total Bases Recorded (+115)
Not only does Alvarez have a good amount of experience against the division rival Gilbert, but he has also performed well. Yordaddy is 5-for-17 with two doubles and a homer off the tall righty. The advanced numbers also back up his results; he’s produced 7 combined line drives and fly balls to 4 ground balls and pop-ups.
What’s more is that a large majority of the pitches Alvarez has seen from Gilbert were “seen”. He takes them for a ball, fouls them off, or puts them in play nearly 70% of the time. That, combined with the quality results to date, indicates a batter that generally feels comfortable in this matchup.
Pairing Alvarez’s career success against Gilbert with his recent stretch of good hitting seems to bode well for tonight. The early struggles of this Mariners’ bullpen help his case. I’m counting on Yordan to provide some pop tonight. Playing 2+ hits recorded at +310 has value as well.
