UPDATE: Josh Giddey has now been ruled out for Tuesday’s game.
The Chicago Bulls looked dead in the water after trading away Zach LaVine at the trade deadline, but they’ve actually become one of the NBA’s most fun units over the past month with a 12-4 record across their last 16 games.
They take on the Eastern Conference leader Cleveland Cavaliers on Tuesday, but they may be without Josh Giddey for that contest as the point guard is questionable with a forearm injury.
The Bulls guard has quietly been playing some of the best ball of his career over the past month-plus. Since the All-Star break, the Australian averages 20.8 points on 49.4% shooting from the field and an impressive 45.3% from three, though on fairly low volume. He contributes across the board, too, with 10.4 rebounds and 9.2 assists per game over that same 18-game sample.
Giddey’s breakout has been a major part of why the Bulls have remained competitive in the Eastern Conference play-in race. Since the All-Star break, Chicago ranks first in the NBA in pace, 10th in NET rating, and 11th in offensive rating.
There are a couple of other notable injuries for Tuesday’s game against the Cavaliers. Center Nikola Vucevic is questionable, while Coby White, Lonzo Ball, and Kevin Huerter have all been ruled out. If Giddey can’t play, it will be difficult for the Bulls to remain competitive.
