How the public is betting Florida vs. Houston in the National Championship

We’ve got ourselves a battle of the one-seeds here, tonight, folks! The Florida Gators take on the Houston Cougars in a title game that feels like the summit of destiny for both programs’ seasons. This is a breakdown of the public betting splits and the most popular player prop bets for what might be one of the most electric National Championship Games in years.

Florida is a one-point favorite (-1) over Houston at DraftKings Sportsbook, with a total of o/u 141.5.

Betting Splits

What a season it’s been for these two squads, with Houston barreling through the Big XII to a 34-4 record and smashing that staggering upset against the Duke Blue Devils on Saturday night. This is the first time Houston’s been to the National Title in their recent run of dominance, which has seen Kelvin Sampson take them to the Final Four twice in the last half-decade. And, indeed, the books will be rooting for a Houston win tonight, both on the Moneyline and the Spread.

The public has the Gators on the spread by a longshot, with 73% of the handle and 69% of the bets on Florida -1. With less than 45% of bets/handle on both Houston ML and spread, the only way the public makes this a March Madness their wallets will remember is if the Gators roll tonight. Many sharps think Houston’s interior—led by sixth-year senior J’Wan Roberts and sophomore phenom Joseph Tugler—will outmuscle Florida’s deep-but-smaller frontcourt led by Alex Condon. And the public clearly believes Walter Clayton, Jr. will hit his classic heroics late and get Florida a pick ’em win.

As far as the total, it’s an utter toss-up. 42% of the handle and 53% of the bets are on the over, likely due to Florida’s ability to rip off scoring runs. But Houston’s defense is precisely what stifled Duke’s one-and-ones and inbounds plays in the final three minutes of that game. That explains why 58% of the handle and 47% of the bets are on the under—people think Houston can beat back even Florida’s relentless scoring wave.

No one’s blinking an eye betting the coldest dude in the tournament for the title. Walter Clayton, Jr. is darn-near sweeping the most popular player props board. Otherwise, the public is doing on J’Wan Roberts and LJ Cryer to both go deep into their bags tonight and excel at what they do best: rebound and drain bombs, respectively.
