UPDATE: On Monday, manager Oliver Mamol said that Herrera will miss at least four weeks due to a bone bruise in his left knee.
UPDATE: Herrera will go on the 10-day IL, but all the tests came back clean.
The Cardinals lost catcher Ivan Herrera to a potentially-significant injury in the third inning of Game 1 of their doubleheader against the Red Sox. Herrera went 0-for-1 with a walk and was hurt going from first to third on a single from Nolan Arenado in the third inning.

He was unable to put weight on his leg as he left the field, and was replaced by Pedro Pages behind the plate to start the fourth inning.
Later in the game, the team announced that he left the game with left knee inflammation. Hopefully, the injury is as minor as that sounds and they are able to dodge any major issue. The injury appeared to be more serious at the time, but stay tuned for more updates as they become available.
Herrera was off to a fantastic start to the season, going 8-for-20 (.400) in his first six games with four home runs and a .633 wOBA. Pages would likely take over more of the work behind the plate for the Cardinals moving forward if Herrera’s injury turns out to be serious.
