Zac Veen was considered one of the top prospects in the 2020 MLB Draft. As a result, the Colorado Rockies selected him with the ninth overall pick.
Throughout his minor league career, there have been some Himalayan Highs with some Labyrinthian Lows. He stole at least 50 bases in two seasons while clubbing double-digit home runs in four seasons. The ISO, though, has been sub-.100 three times while the strikeout rate got as high as 29.8%.
His professional career has been marred by injuries, but things looked to have stabilized last season, when he slashed .258/.346/.459 with an 11.1% walk rate, 24.8% strikeout rate and .202 ISO in 270 minor league plate appearances.
In 32 Triple-A plate appearances this season, Veen had a 9.4% walk rate, 18.8% strikeout rate and .333 ISO.
Late Sunday night, the Rockies decided to call up their prized prospect, optioning OF Jordan Beck back to Triple-A. Veen is expected to man one of the corner outfield spots in the outfield while his place in the batting order has yet to be determined.
Veen will likely make his MLB debut at home, as the Rockies host the Milwaukee Brewers for a three-game set starting on Tuesday.
