The 2025 NFL Draft is quickly approaching, and the Cleveland Browns hold the second-overall pick. Unlike in past years, the direction that this draft is going is a mystery, even to draft experts. Less than a month away from the draft, the decision-making of the teams at the top of the draft board could change day-by-day.

NFL Draft Props: No. 2 Pick Odds
The Browns hold the second pick in the first-round of the 2025 NFL Draft. They are a unique spot in their offseason, where they don’t even know who will be their starting quarterback next season. The Deshaun Watson experiment has been a complete disaster, and regardless, he will likely miss most of next season as he recovers from a torn Achilles. Jameis Winston started 12 games for the Browns last season, but they did not consider him a viable option to start the 2025 season, so he has moved on to the Giants. The Browns did sign Kenny Pickett, and they have expressed interest in Carson Wentz, as well. However, both of those quarterbacks spent last season as backups and would likely be a downgrade from Winston. There does seem to be some strong mutual interest between the Browns and Kirk Cousins. Cousins is technically still a Falcon, but with Atlanta set to start Michael Penix Jr. next season, Cousins is likely to be traded this offseason.
This is an important factor in the Browns’ draft decision. If they acquire Kirk Cousins, it becomes very unlikely that they will draft a quarterback. However, if their quarterback room is just Kenny Pickett and Dorian Thompson-Robinson heading into the draft, the idea of drafting a quarterback becomes much more enticing. The other offseason move that could have an impact on who the Browns draft is the re-signing of Myles Garrett. The Browns’ superstar EDGE initially looked likely to move on to a new team, but ended up signing another contract with the Browns, keeping him in Cleveland for the next few seasons.
The re-signing of Myles Garrett is so consequential because it is another EDGE, Abdul Carter, who has the best odds to be taken second-overall in the 2025 NFL Draft. Carter was a superstar at Penn State and is considered by many to be the most talented player in this draft class. EDGE is a position of strength for the Browns, which makes this a conflicting pick. If they decide to draft Carter, they could have one of the most feared pass rushes in football with Carter and Garrett on opposite ends of the line. However, they still have a lot of issues on the offensive side of the ball that need to be fixed.
That brings up the player with the second-best odds to be taken second -overall: Travis Hunter. The Heisman Trophy winner is a once-in-a-generation type of player with his ability to play at a high level at both cornerback and wide receiver. There is still a lot of speculation over which position he will play in the NFL. Hunter has expressed that he wants to continue to play on both sides of the ball, but it is unlikely that an NFL team would allow that, at least on a regular basis. The most likely outcome for Hunter is that he will be a regular cornerback who makes the occasional appearance on offense for a gadget play or in goal-line situations. That would give the Browns a big boost in the secondary, as well as giving them another playmaker on offense.
If the Browns decide to draft a quarterback, Shedeur Sanders would be the likely choice. Cam Ward is the top quarterback prospect in this draft class, but it looks increasingly likely that the Titans will take him with the top pick. If the Titans somehow deviate and take Abdul Carter or Travis Hunter, then Cam Ward would be a home run pick for the Browns. However, if Ward goes first, they have a tough choice to make. Sanders’ stock has dropped throughout this draft process. He was once thought of on the same tier as Ward, but now many experts think he could drop way down the board on draft night. The Browns don’t seem sold on Sanders, and they would likely rather opt for a veteran like Cousins or even settle for a combination of Kenny Pickett and Carson Wentz as a bridge to whoever they pursue next off-season to be their franchise quarterback.
