Ketel Marte 1+ Home Run (+450)
Marte has yet to go deep in 2025, yet the quality of contact has been there to start the season. In fact, Marte enters play on Thursday sporting a 91st percentile average exit velocity (94.9) and a 99th percentile max exit velocity (115.5) through six games. In layman’s terms, that means a home run could be on the horizon — especially while playing in Yankee Stadium. According to Statcast’s MLB Park Factors, New York has been the easiest AL field to hit a home run in dating back to the beginning of 2022. The presence of Carlos Carrasco is also worth noting. Carrasco’s been in a steady decline for the past half-decade, yet injuries have forced the 38-year-old into the Yankees’ rotation. Since 2019, Carrasco has conceded 1.52 opponent long balls per nine. Woof.
William Contreras 1+ Home Run (+550)
The intelligent thing to do with this game would be to bet against Nestor Cortes, whose terrible outing last weekend against the Yankees is as responsible for the torpedo bat craze as the lumber itself. However, I find myself drawn to Contreras. Stunningly, the backstop has started the season 0-for-13 in his 14 plate appearances against left-handed pitching. That’s quite odd, as Contreras is slashing .318/.405/.543 with a .225 ISO and a 159 wRC+ versus southpaws for his whole career. Expect the numbers to normalize this evening with Nick Lodolo on the mound for the Reds. The lefty allowed a long ball in his first start of 2025, but even more troubling was the complete lack of whiffs. Lodolo registered only a single strikeout in six innings with an underwhelming 8.1% swinging strike rate.
