UPDATE: Freeman was activated on Friday.
Freddie Freeman injured his ankle last weekend after slipping and falling while entering the shower at his home. It was the same ankle that he had surgery on in the offseason. X-rays did come back negative, but he did not play in the Atlanta series, and on Thursday the Dodgers placed Freeman on the 10-day injured list, retroactive to March 31.
The Dodgers have a six-game road in Philadelphia and Washington. April 9th is the earliest Freeman can be activated, which coincides with the final game of the Nationals series. After that, the Dodgers return home to face the Cubs, starting on Friday, April 11th. That is probably when Freeman will make his return, barring any setbacks.
Kike Hernandez has been filling in for Freeman at first base, and will likely continue to do so until the Dodgers return home. Hernandez has feasted on left-handed pitching in his career, and he will likely face three in the upcoming road trip: Jesus Luzardo, Cristopher Sanchez and Mackenzie Gore.
