Seven games between 14 teams are set to tip off on Tuesday across the NBA. Among the matchups to watch, the Warriors will face the Grizzlies in Memphis for a potential playoff preview. Later, Anthony Edwards’ Timberwolves and Nikola Jokic’s Nuggets will battle in a Western Conference semifinals rematch. Jared Butler more than 1.5 three-pointers made
It’s full-blown tank mode for the 76ers, a fitting return to form for a franchise that loves to disappoint. Philadelphia’s pathetic roster is currently being led by a combination of unproven youngsters and random veterans. That includes journeyman point guard Jared Butler. The fourth-year pro, traded to Philly in February, has impressed as of late. During his last ten games, the Baylor alum has averaged 13.3 points, 2.1 rebounds and 5.1 assists.
Tonight’s contest won’t be easy, as the 76ers will travel to the Big Apple. If there’s any weakness on New York’s defense, it’s on the perimeter. Opponents have shot 37.3% from three-point range against the Knicks this season, the fourth-worst mark in basketball. In each of his last four appearances, Butler has knocked down at least three shots from beyond the arc. Another solid outing from long-distance should be in store for the point guard on Tuesday.
Zaccharie Risacher more than 14.5 points
A Hawks squad missing numerous front court contributors has turned to Zaccharie Risacher. It’s been a shaky first season, but the rookie has begun to find his footing as of late. Over his last ten games, the Frenchman has put up 17.7 points, 4.3 rebounds and 1.2 assists. Most recently, he dropped 36 points against the Bucks on Sunday.
Risacher isn’t the most consistent player, but he’s clearly growing more comfortable as a scorer. His success is likely to continue tonight against a subpar Trail Blazers defense. This season, Portland has allowed 117.3 points per game to opponents, the eighth-highest mark in the NBA. When these teams met way back in November, Risacher recorded 11 points in 21 minutes. Now, with a much larger workload, the 19-year-old is set up nicely for an even better performance on Tuesday.
Immanuel Quickley more than 18.5 points
There’s a lot of talent in Toronto, but injuries have hindered the team all season. That includes tonight’s contest, as the Raptors will be without RJ Barrett (rest) and Brandon Ingram (ankle). Fortunately, Immanuel Quickley is more than ready to pick up the slack. The 25-year-old suffered through injuries of his own to start the year. However, he’s been terrific as of late. During his last 20 games, the guard has posted 18.3 points, 4.1 rebounds and 5.8 assists.
Toronto will hope to pick up a win on Tuesday vs. the Bulls. Chicago has played better basketball recently, but its defense has allowed the second-most points per game this season (121.0). When these teams last met in February, Quickley recorded 23 points. IQ has notched at least 19 points in seven of his previous ten appearances. Keeping that in mind, it’s difficult to imagine a poor showing against one of the NBA’s worst defenses.
Jakob Poeltl more than 8.5 rebounds
Let’s stay in the Windy City, where the Raptors are hoping to earn their fifth-straight victory. If there’s a Toronto player deserving of more praise, it’s Jakob Poeltl. The veteran big man does most of the dirty work up north, including grabbing boards and protecting the rim. Through 55 games, the Austrian has recorded 14.6 points, 9.7 rebounds and 2.8 assists.
The Bulls are a fantasy basketball dream matchup. Not only does this team struggle defense, but they also possess the NBA’s second-fastest pace (102.88) on offense. An uptempo play style leads to plenty of extra possessions, making every Raptor worth considering in fantasy lineups. This season, Chicago has surrendered 54.8 rebounds per game to opponents, second-most in the association. A double-double machine like Poeltl should dominate the glass vs. one of the NBA’s weakest front courts.
Paolo Banchero more than 4.5 assists
Anyone who’s watched a Magic game knows this is a group that struggles to score points. Other than Franz Wagner and Paolo Banchero, it’s difficult to find many difference-makers on offense. That’s especially true with Jalen Suggs, the team’s top passer, injured for the rest of the season. Without a true starting-caliber guard, Orlando will need both of its stars to step up as distributors. Over Banchero’s last 15 games, he’s produced 4.5 assists.
Even for an offensively-limited roster, Tuesday night’s game appears promising. Victor Wembanyama (blood clot) is done for the year, leaving the Spurs without a difference-maker on defense. San Antonio has issues guarding passes, allowing the eighth-most assists per game (27.9) in basketball. That number has risen to 35.7 over the team’s last three games. Against a depleted front court, Banchero should find several open teammates tonight.
Anthony Edwards more than 32.5 points + assists
For all the talk of their demise, the Timberwolves are on track for a third consecutive postseason appearance. Minnesota, with a record of 43-32, has been carried by the superb play of Anthony Edwards. This season, the three-time All-Star has averaged a career-best 27.2 points along with 5.7 rebounds and 4.6 assists per game. Those numbers are made more impressive when considering the lack of high-caliber scorers playing alongside Ant-Man.
Minnesota’s face of the franchise is poised for another terrific performance on Tuesday. It’s no secret that the Timberwolves have had success against Denver, eliminating them in the 2024 Western Conference semifinals. The Nuggets have been even worse on defense this season, surrendering the seventh-most points (117.5) and second-most assists (29.0) per game. In each of Edward’s last three meetings with Denver, he’s recorded at least 33 points + assists. Another stat-stuffing outing could be in store tonight for the 23-year-old phenom.
