Report: Garrett Crochet agrees to extension with Red Sox

In the offseason, the Boston Red Sox made it a priority to improve a pitching staff that was 20th in FIP and 22nd in K/9 during the 2024 season. Mission accomplished, as they traded a bevy of prospects for Garrett Crochet.

Crochet could always miss bats, but like most young pitchers, had control issues early in his career. Last season, though, Crochet had a BB/9 of only 2.03 while posting a 35.1% strikeout rate, good for a robust 29.6% K-BB%.

After one start in the 2025 campaign, the Red Sox opened up the check book and agreed to a six-year, $170 million contract extension, per Jeff Passan of ESPN.
