Trea Turner injury update: Not expected to return until Wednesday

UPDATE: The Phillies do not expect Turner to play on Monday in the home opener, but are hopeful that he will play return Wednesday after Tuesday’s scheduled off-day.

On Saturday, Philadelphia Phillies SS Trea Turner was originally in the lineup hitting second, but he was scratched due to a lower back spasm.

Turner started the season going 0-for-4 with a walk and a strikeout in the Phillies’ extra-inning win on Thursday. The team will hope he can quickly return from this back issue and that it doesn’t become a lingering issue.

Last season, Turner was limited to 121 games by injury but still had 21 home runs, 19 stolen bases, a .295 batting average and a .349 wOBA. He had a slow spring training with just one home run and one stolen base in 16 games while hitting only .179. He’s a key part of the Phillies lineup, though, so they’ll hope to get him back in the lineup Sunday in Washington or Monday afternoon for their home opener against the Rockies.
