Update: On Sunday, the Blue Jays announced Scherzer was placed on the 15-day IL.
On Saturday, Toronto Blue Jays starting pitcher Max Scherzer was removed from the game after just three innings due to lat soreness.
Max Scherzer left the game with right lat soreness, per the Jays.

Scherzer has been dealing with a nerve issue that affects his thumb, but this issue may be related since the thumb nerve issue can impact the tricep and lat area.
Before departing, Scherzer gave up two runs on three hits with one strikeout in his Blue Jays debut. He surrendered home runs to Colton Cowser and Jordan Westburg in the first inning but then threw two scoreless frames before departing. He was replaced by Richard Lovelady, who struggled and gave up four runs in his one inning of work.
Scherzer’s next start would likely be next Friday in New York against the Mets, but it’s uncertain how this injury will impact his availability for that start. Stay tuned for more updates and to see whether the issue will require an IL stint or not.
