Seven games between 14 teams are set to tip off on Saturday across the NBA. Among the matchups to watch, the high-powered Pacers will visit the title-contending Thunder in Oklahoma City. Elsewhere, the Grizzlies will take on the Lakers in Los Angeles one day after firing head coach Taylor Jenkins. Anthony Black more than 11.5 points
It’s no secret that the Magic are starved for offense. This defensively-minded roster usually struggles to score points, outside of Paolo Banchero and Franz Wagner. With Jalen Suggs (knee) out for the season, there are plenty of minutes available in Orlando’s back court. Anthony Black has seized the opportunity, emerging as a difference-maker at guard. Over his last five games, the second-year pro has averaged 14.8 points, 4.6 rebounds and 3.6 assists per game.
Nobody would mistake the Arkansas alum for a sharpshooter; he’s recorded a 42.7% field goal percentage this season. Still, Black’s stellar defense ensures he stays on the floor for at least half of every game. That could come in handy against a mediocre Kings defense allowing the 14th-most points per game (113.7). When these teams last met in February, Black produced 15 points in just 16 minutes. Assuming the 21-year-old sees the court more tonight, he’s a solid Pick6 choice.
Domantas Sabonis less than 0.5 three-pointers made
It’s been an injury-plagued March for Domantas Sabonis. The big man has missed nine of Sacramento’s 15 games this month due to separate hamstring and ankle ailments. Still, when healthy, few are better than the three-time All-Star. This season, he’s posted 19.0 points, 14.0 rebounds and 6.1 assists per game while shooting 59.1% from the field.
One of the more underrated aspects of Sabonis’ game is his three-point shooting. The center has knocked down a career-best 40.8% of his 2.3 attempts per game from long-distance. Unfortunately for the Kings, tonight’s matchup is as difficult as it gets on offense. The Magic have held opponents to the second-fewest points (103.5) and the fewest three-pointers made (11.5) per game. That doesn’t bode well for Sacramento’s leading man entering Saturday’s contest.
Spencer Dinwiddie more than 5.5 assists
No team has had a more tumultuous few months than the Mavericks. Luka Doncic is a Laker, Kyrie Irving’s season is over, and Anthony Davis has played three games for Dallas. To fill the void left in Big D, the team has turned to veteran Spencer Dinwiddie. Since March 1st, the point guard has put up 14.9 points, 2.9 rebounds and 5.9 assists per game.
Now that AD is back, there will be less points to go around for the rest of Dallas’ roster. However, the big man can only help a beleaguered Mavs offense. With more buckets, there should be more assists. That’s especially true tonight against a Bulls squad that barely plays any defense. This season, opponents have dished out 28.9 dimes per game against Chicago, the third-worst mark in basketball. A savvy pro such as Dinwiddie should find room to operate as a distributor in this one.
Klay Thompson less than 2.5 three-pointers made
We’ll stay in Chicago, where the Mavs are still (somehow) fighting to qualify for the Western Conference play-in. On a Dallas roster that has underwent a major face-lift, Klay Thompson has remained a constant. It’s been a mixed bag for the 35-year-old, playing his first season away from Golden State. Through 65 games, he’s averaged 14.2 points, 3.6 rebounds and 2.1 assists on mediocre 41.2/39.1/90.1 shooting splits.
As inconsistent as the former Splash Brother has been, he’s still capable of lighting it up. In theory, that could occur tonight against a porous Bulls defense. However, Chicago has held opponents to the lowest three-point percentage (34.2%) in the NBA this season. Thompson is a threat to knock down some buckets, but they probably won’t be from beyond the arc.
Rui Hachimura more than 4.5 rebounds
The new-look Lakers have gotten plenty of hype, and for good reason. Post-Doncic deal, Los Angeles has firmly established itself as a title contender. However, don’t forget about some of the quality pieces that were already on this roster. Rui Hachimura will never light up a stat sheet, but he’s a solid front court presence for a team in need of size. This season, the forward has recorded 13.0 points, 5.1 rebounds and 1.4 assists per game.
Tonight’s matchup could be a playoff preview, so expect the Lakers to leave their best players on the floor. Memphis plays at the NBA’s fastest pace (103.39), which leads to plenty of possessions (and counting stats) for both sides. In each of his last four games against the Grizzlies, Hachimura has reached five rebounds. There’s no reason to expect anything different on Saturday.
Kristaps Porzingis more than 7.5 rebounds
An unstoppable Celtics machine works because no one player needs to dominate a game; the team’s stars are able to alternate big performances. Kristaps Porzingis isn’t at Jayson Tatum or Jaylen Brown’s level, but he’s an All-Star as well. Through 37 games, the center has averaged 19.7 points and 7.0 rebounds while shooting 48.9% from the field.
The Latvian will be licking his chops ahead of tonight’s showdown with a Spurs team missing shot-blocker Victor Wembanyama. Without their seven-footer patrolling the paint, San Antonio has been far more vulnerable down low, including on the boards. Porzingis has notched at least eight rebounds in each of his last four appearances. Don’t be shocked if the big man delivers another double-double on Saturday.
