Three names that jump out are Eugenio Suarez (+425), Christopher Morel (+290) and Adolis Garcia (+550).
Suarez went deep on Opening Day, which does concern me. Expecting home runs in back-to-back games is a bit much — though far from impossible. It feels even more probable when you realize Suarez has three home runs in 32 at-bats (38 plate appearances) vs. Jameson Taillon throughout his career. Also, Taillon posted a whopping 40.5% fly-ball rate throughout 2024 and a HR/9 rate of 1.14.
Morel doesn’t have the sample size vs. Kyle Freeland that Suarez does in his matchup, but the Tampa outfielder has still taken the Colorado left-hander deep twice in just six plate appearances. That plays into the tendencies Morel has displayed against left-handed pitching over the last couple of seasons, posting a hard-hit rate north of 37% both years, as well as a fly-ball rate above 40%.
Garcia is a similar case to Morel, having taken Tanner Houck deep twice over seven at-bats (nine plate appearances). But in this case, Garcia doesn’t have the platoon advantage. Last season, he produced his lowest home run output against right-handed pitching since 2021 (18). But combined with the BvP numbers, Garcia’s promising display with his swing adjustments throughout the spring make him a compelling no-sweat option while having the longest odds among these three players.
