Karl-Anthony Towns is coming off of his best game as a Knick. It has been a tough transition for New York the past couple of weeks without its star point guard, Jalen Brunson. As Brunson recovers from his ankle injury, a larger burden has been placed on Towns to carry the New York offense. For a few games, things looked disjointed for New York on the offensive end. However, in the last several games, Towns has stepped up to the plate offensively. Things really clicked into place in last night’s game against the Mavericks when the whole offense ran through Towns. Not only did Towns score 26 points, but he added 10 assists as well en route to his first triple-double as a Knick. New York won the game against Dallas 128-113 in what was a great team performance, led by Towns.
This matchup against the Clippers will be much tougher than last night’s against the Mavericks. The Clippers are actually the first team that the Knicks faced after Brunson’s ankle injury. They ended up losing that game in Los Angeles 105-95. It was a solid defensive effort from the Knicks, but they weren’t able to score against the Clippers without Brunson. The Knicks have found more of an offensive rhythm the past few games, but they will be reliant on Towns to have a big game to beat the Clippers. The Clippers have their big seven-footer, Ivica Zubac, in the middle to take on Towns. Zubac is the NBA’s fourth-leading rebounder and one of the most efficient scorers, ranking sixth in field-goal percentage. The Knicks will need Towns to work hard defensively and on the boards, which could take some away from his offensive game.
