The PGA TOUR travels to Memorial Park (par 70, 7,475 yards, POA Trivialis greens) in Houston for the Texas Children’s Houston Open this week. This is a field of 144 golfers and after the first two rounds, there will be a standard top 65 and ties cut.
Below, I have featured a make-cut parlay to consider for the Texas Children’s Houston Open.
Sahith Theegala + Mackenzie Hughes + Jacob Bridgeman to make the cut (+223)
While Theegala hasn’t been finishing high on leaderboards recently, he continues to be one of the best cut makers on the PGA TOUR. Since the start of last season, Theegala has impressively only missed four cuts in 34 starts and three of these four missed cuts notably came in foreign areas in Hawaii, Canada and Ireland. This week’s tournament will be played on American soil at Memorial Park in Houston, which is a course that fits Theegala’s game perfectly. Memorial Park is a long course that presents little trouble off-the-tee, which allows big hitters like Theegala to swing their driver freely and confidently on most holes. As a result, the bomber has never missed a cut at Memorial Park in three starts and his last two finishes here have come inside the top 28. Coming off a solid T36 finish at the Valspar Championship, Theegala should have no issues making the cut in his return to Memorial Park this week.
Hughes also finished T36 at the Valspar Championship last week and he notably gained strokes across the board at the tricky Copperhead Course. Hughes has now advanced to the weekend in six of his past eight starts and, in this form, Hughes is a very safe bet to make the cut at his beloved Memorial Park. Hughes has competed in all four of the Houston Opens at Memorial Park and he has never finished worse than T29 at the par 70. In fact, among the players in this week’s field that have competed at Memorial Park more than once, Hughes ranks third in career average finish and fifth in strokes gained per round at the Texas venue.
Lastly, Jacob Bridgeman finished T21 in his debut at Memorial Park last year and he returns to the course 130 spots higher in the World Golf Rankings at a career-high No. 70. Bridgeman has made five straight cuts and three of these finishes have come inside the top 15, including a T3 at the Valspar Championship last week. Bridgeman tied for the most birdies at the Copperhead Course and his flat stick has been incredible, ranking sixth in SGP this season. Additionally, Bridgeman ranks sixth in total strokes gained when we compare this field’s last 24 rounds. Very few players head to Memorial Park this week in better form than Bridgeman and he can backed to make the cut with full confidence.
