Eight games between 16 teams are set to tip off on Tuesday across the NBA. Among the matchups to watch, Jimmy Butler makes his return to Miami as a member of the Warriors. Devin Vassell more than 2.5 three-pointers made
Without both Victor Wembanyama and De’Aaron Fox, the Spurs are starved for contributors on offense. If anyone can pick up the scoring slack on this roster, it’s Devin Vassell. The fifth-year pro has had a solid, albeit unspectacular season so far. Through 55 games, he’s put up 16.2 points while shooting 44.2% from the field (35.8 3PT%). As one of the few healthy San Antonio play makers, the guard should see plenty of touches going forward.
Vassell makes his biggest impact from long-distance, where he’s averaged 2.3 three-pointers made. That number has risen to 3.0 over his last five games. Tuesday’s opponent, the Pistons, have struggled to defend the perimeter all season. Teams are connecting on 36.6% of their attempts from deep vs. Detroit, the seventh-worst mark in the NBA. Keeping that in mind, San Antonio’s sharpshooter is set for another quality performance from beyond the arc.
Franz Wagner more than 5.5 rebounds
Despite a hot start to the season, Orlando now finds itself fighting to stay out of the Eastern Conference play-in. While it’s been a rough few months for the Magic, they still employ two budding stars in Paolo Banchero and Franz Wagner. The latter has emerged as a true two-way force, capable of carrying the offense without his All-Star running mate. Through 52 games, he’s posted 24.3 points, 5.7 rebounds and 4.8 assists while shooting 46.4% from the field.
While Wagner is known more for his scoring, he’s also a capable rebounder. That should come in handy on Tuesday against a Hornets team that has struggled to box out this season. Charlotte has allowed opponents to snag 53.4 boards per game, the sixth-highest mark in basketball. Orlando’s wing has recorded at least seven rebounds in three of the last four meetings between these two teams. There’s no reason to believe that won’t continue tonight against a vulnerable front court.
Brandin Podziemski more than 3.5 assists
In Tuesday’s marquee matchup, all eyes will be on Jimmy Butler. However, another member of the Warriors could enjoy a big game in South Beach. Stephen Curry (pelvic contusion) remains out of action, leaving a massive void in Golden State’s back court. If anyone on the Dubs is set for more work, its Brandin Podziemski. Recently, the second-year pro has earned a starting role from head coach Steve Kerr. As a result, he’s averaged 13.7 points, 5.8 rebounds and 3.4 assists per game since the start of February.
Clearly, the 22-year-old isn’t what anyone would consider a true point guard. Still, he’s shown playmaking potential when given the opportunity. In 12 of 17 career games played without Curry, Podziemski has recorded at least four assists. The Heat are a good defensive unit, but they have allowed the 15th-most assists per game this season (26.6). That makes Golden State’s secret weapon a player to target tonight.
Jalen Green more than 22.5 points
On a Rockets team starved for offensive talent, Jalen Green serves an important role. The fourth-year pro isn’t the most well-rounded player, but he’s an extremely gifted scorer. This season, the guard has averaged a team-high 21.3 points per game. While Green’s efficiency is something to monitor (42.2%), he’s a walking bucket against most squads.
Houston will have an advantageous matchup on deck tonight against the Hawks. This season, Atlanta has allowed the fifth-most points (118.8) and fifth-most three-pointers made (14.1) per game to opponents. When these teams last met on January 28th, Green tallied 25 points on 11-of-25 shooting. A similar amount of touches on Tuesday should allow the 23-year-old to clear this total.
Isaiah Collier more than 10.5 points
It’s understandable if you haven’t been paying much attention to the Jazz recently. Utah, destined for a prime lottery pick, began tanking months ago. That’s led to more minutes for some of the younger players on the roster, including Isaiah Collier. Since January 26th, the 20-year-old has averaged 11.2 points, 4.0 rebounds and 7.9 assists per game.
To call Collier an inconsistent shooter is an understatement; the USC alum has a 41.5% field goal percentage. Still, he commands enough volume to deliver plenty of buckets. Tonight’s matchup should be high-scoring, as the Grizzlies play at the NBA’s fastest pace (103.52). As a result, Memphis has coughed up the 12th-most points to opponents this season (114.1). When these two teams last met on March 12th, Collier notched 11 points over 28 minutes. Utah’s talented youngster is poised to deliver once again on Tuesday.
Walker Kessler more than 11.5 rebounds
We’ll stay in Utah, where the Western Conference’s worst team will look to earn a shocking upset. If the Jazz have any hopes of securing a win, they’ll need a big performance from Walker Kessler. The young center is limited offensively, but he’s still a difference-maker. This season, he’s posted 11.3 points and 12.3 rebounds per game.
As previously mentioned, Memphis’ rapid pace of play leads to extra possessions for both teams. That’s perfect for Kessler, a big man with 20+ rebound potential in any given game. The 23-year-old has accounted for at least 12 boards in five of his last eight outings. That includes a 14-rebound night agains the Grizzlies on March 12th. Utah’s center should have ample opportunity to make an impact on the glass in this contest.
