In a devastating blow to the Milwaukee Bucks’ postseason hopes, point guard Damian Lillard is out indefinitely due to deep vein thrombosis in his right calf, per ESPN’s Shams Charania.
According to the ESPN insider, Lillard has been given blood-thinning medication which stabilized the blood clot. He will be regularly tested, though he remains out for an indefinite period of time.
“It’s unfortunate that something outside of my control would come up,” Lillard told NBA insider Chris Haynes in a statement published to Twitter/X.
“Along with the Bucks’ medical staff, our priorities are to protect my health and safety,” Lillard said. “As much as I love basketball, I need to be there for my kids and family. I’m grateful the Bucks acted quickly on this. They’ve been supportive and proactive throughout this process. I look forward to moving past this and continuing my career.”
The Bucks sit fifth in the Eastern Conference with a 40-31 record. With just 11 games to go, superstar forward Giannis Antetokounmpo now has to shoulder the load entering the home stretch of the season.
