Timberwolves +2.5 (-108)
Minnesota heads into its second meeting with Indiana this week looking to bounce back after the Pacers handed them a tough loss. Minnesota struggled with turnovers in their last matchup but scored at a high volume, especially from Anthony Edwards, who posted 38 points. Edwards will need to keep up his scoring to cover the spread, but the Timberwolves’ depth and ability to shoot from beyond the arc should help keep things close.
Indiana has been hot lately, coming off a win against Brooklyn with Tyrese Haliburton in the lineup. However, they’ve been prone to turnovers, and that could be an issue against a Timberwolves team that thrives on creating opportunities. While the Pacers are playing well, Minnesota has the firepower to keep this one close enough to cover the +2.5 spread.
Mavericks -2.5 (-108)
Dallas will be without Kyrie Irving for the remainder of the season, but the Mavericks have shown they can still perform without him. P.J. Washington and Spencer Dinwiddie have stepped up, with Dinwiddie scoring a season-high 31 points in a win over Detroit. Despite missing some key frontcourt pieces, Dallas has enough offensive depth to handle business against a struggling Brooklyn squad. Anthony Davis could return from a 19-game absence as he was upgraded to doubtful and ultimately to questionable.
Brooklyn has been unable to string together consistent performances, and with players like D’Angelo Russell and Ziaire Williams dealing with injuries, they are at a disadvantage. The Nets are in a tough stretch, and even with its injuries, Dallas should be able to cover the -2.5 spread on the road.
Lakers -4 (-108)
The Lakers will look to shake off a tough loss to the Bulls and regain some momentum against Orlando. LeBron James made his return from injury, but it wasn’t enough to get past Chicago. Now facing Orlando, the Lakers will need to play better defense to cover the spread. Orlando, led by Paolo Banchero, has been solid offensively but has struggled defensively.
While Banchero has been playing at an elite level, the Lakers’ defense should improve against Orlando’s offense. The Magic’s lack of depth, especially with injuries to key players, will make it tough for them to keep up with the Lakers. Los Angeles, even after a rough stretch, should be able to cover the -4 spread.
Nuggets -3.5 (-105)
Denver is still one of the strongest teams in the West despite missing MVP candidate Nikola Jokic. The Nuggets have managed to stay competitive with solid play from Jamal Murray and Aaron Gordon. Chicago will pose a challenge, but with Denver’s depth and the way Murray has been playing recently, they should have enough to cover the spread.
Chicago has been up and down recently, but Josh Giddey and Coby White have been bright spots, and they’ll need him to keep producing at a high level. However, Denver’s overall strength and solid defense will give them the edge here, making them a safe pick to cover the -3.5 spread at home.
Celtics -3.5 (-105)
Boston is on a roll, having won five straight games. Jayson Tatum has been playing at an MVP level, even in the absence of Jaylen Brown, and the Celtics’ defense has been stifling. They’ve got the tools to keep Sacramento at bay in this matchup. Despite Sabonis’ potential return for Sacramento, the Kings have struggled against top teams, and Boston’s depth should prevail here.
The Kings are still in the hunt for a playoff spot, but their recent inconsistency, combined with injuries to key players, makes it tough for them to keep up with the Celtics. Boston should be able to handle Sacramento comfortably and cover the -3.5 spread.
