Vinnie Pasquantino injury update: Diagnosed with hamstring strain

On Saturday, Kansas City Royals 1B Vinnie Pasquantino suffered a hamstring injury while trying to beat out a double play.

After the game, the team confirmed that the injury was a hamstring strain and said that Vinnie P would be re-evaluated on Sunday in Arlington, where the Royals are playing a two-game exhibition series before heading home to Kansas City for Opening Day on Thursday against the Guardians.

Strains can be a wide variety of severity, so Pasquantino’s timetable is still unclear at this point. Stay tuned for more clarity when the team provides an update.

For his part, Pasquantino said “I feel fine. My gut tells me it’s not going to affect anything, but my gut is not the medical staff.”

Fantasy baseball impact

Pasquantino is a key part of the heart of the Royals lineup. The 27-year-old hit a career-high 19 home runs last season with a .262 batting average and .325 wOBA.

If he’s out, fans may call for super prospect Jac Caglianone to get a look. Mark Canha was just acquired from the Brewers for a player to be named or cash considerations on Friday, and he could be a short-term fill-in if Pasquantino is out for only a few games.
