Kristian Campbell makes the Opening Day roster for the Red Sox

On Sunday, Boston Red Sox 2B Kristian Campbell was told he will open the season as part of the Red Sox roster. He played a variety of positions in his rise through the minors, but he is expected to be the team’s primary 2B to start the season.

Campbell was ranked as the No. 7 prospect recently by MLB Pipeline. He rose quickly through the minors last year and went from a fourth-round pick to the Baseball America Minor League Player of the Year. In 2023, he began the year at High-A in Greenville and finished in Triple-A with the Worcester Red Sox. In 115 games games, he hit .330 with 20 home runs, stole 24 bases and had a .447 wOBA.

After a slow start to Spring Training, he went 6-for-25 (.240) over his last 10 games with a home run, a pair of doubles and five walks.

Fantasy baseball impact

Campbell will be a top sleeper to watch early in the season since he has the ability to make an impact with both his power and speed. He should get regular playing time, or the team wouldn’t have kept him on the roster. He has very limited experience at Triple-A, so there could be a learning curve as he adjusts to the MLB level, but he has a very high ceiling.
