UPDATE: Connor Norby will be placed on the 15-day IL with an oblique strain. He is expected to miss at least four weeks of action.

On Saturday, Miami Marlins 2B/3B Connor Norby was forced to leave the Marlins’ matchup with the Astros with an oblique injury.
Not what you want to see five days before Opening Day.

Norby hit a triple in the second inning and actually said that his “side tightness” started on the swing rather than his awkward slide at the end of the triple. Whenever the injury occurred, Norby said it was “not fun” on Saturday before feeling a little better on Sunday.
The Marlins will have Norby go for more imaging on his oblique on Monday to determine the severity of the injury and his timetable to return if he’s forced to go on IL to start the season.
Oblique injuries can recur if they aren’t given time to heal, so watch for Miami to be very cautious not to push Norby early in the season.
Fantasy baseball impact
Norby was acquired by the Marlins from the Orioles in the middle of last season, and he quickly established himself as a key part of the team’s future. In his 45 games, he hit .236 with nine home runs and three stolen bases.
Norby was expected to hit near the top of the Marlins order and play mostly 3B this season. If he misses the start of the season, Jonah Bride and Eric Wagaman are the top two options to step in at 3B. The team could also recall Graham Pauley, who was sent to Triple-A after a strong spring training.
