After a great week at TPC Sawgrass, the PGA TOUR finishes the four-week stay in Florida with a stop at the Copperhead Course at Innisbrook Resort for this year’s Valspar Championship. It’s another week with a strong field on a tough course, and there are some fun names to consider on the board in this week’s six 3-ball matchups. Let’s take a look at my Golf Best Bets for the Valspar Championship from the tournament trios this week.
If you’re not familiar with the 3-ball matchups, let’s quickly go over the ground rules. In the matchup section of the tournament page, there are six Tournament Trios that match up three players head-to-head for the duration of the tournament. In my opinion, 3-balls are a perfect balance of risk and reward. They are a great way to get plus odds but still have a manageable matchup to attack.
Last week at THE PLAYERS, I hit on two of my three picks for the third straight week, getting wins from Shane Lowry and Min Woo Lee, who was the only one in his trio to make the cut. The only miss I had was Jason Day, whose trio was voided when he withdrew before the event, so let’s count that as an undefeated week and look to keep the roll going this week at Copperhead!
Looking at this week’s 3-balls, here are my three golf best bets:
Tommy Fleetwood (+120)
Fleetwood is a strong favorite in this group, but because it’s a trio he’s still at plus-money. He’s matched up with Xander Schauffele (+160) and two-time Valspar champion Sam Burns (+240).
Name recognition aside, Fleetwood is in by far the best form of this trio. Schauffele has barely made the cut and finished T40 and T72 in his two events since returning from a rib injury. He has a great top form, but he has not shown that top for since returning.
Burns has also been struggling this season, missing the cut at THE PLAYERS and placing T48 at Ball Hill in his two Florida performances. He did have four top-30s earlier this season but only one top-10 finish and that came all the way back at The Sentry.
Both Burns and Schauffele have outstanding course history at Copperhead. Schauffele finished T12 and T5 in his two previous career appearances while Burns won twice and added to other top-12 finishes in his first five events before missing the cut last season at this track. Either one of them could draw on that course history to flip their recent form, but I’d rather back Fleetwood given how well he has been playing.
Fleetwood has finished in the top 25 in all five of his events worldwide in 2025. He finished T21 in the Hero Dubai Desert Classic on the DP World Tour and T22 at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am before reeling off three straight top-15 finishes at The Genesis Invitational (T5), the Arnold Palmer Invitational (T11), and THE PLAYERS CHAMPIONSHIP (T14) last week.
He also has a great course history here with a T16 and a T3, but it’s his much better recent form than Schauffele’s and Burns’ that makes him the best bet for me in this tournament trio.
J.T. Poston (+170)
Poston takes on co-favorite Lucas Glover (+170) while Ben Griffin (+180) is also in the trio as a wild card. Griffin has played in every event this season and showed signs of fatigue in his last two outings, so Poston and Glover are really the two strong options here as indicated by the odds.
Poston has been very steady all season. The 31-year-old veteran made the cut in seven of his eight events this season with two top-20 finishes. He won the Shriners Children’s Open in the FedExCup Fall and has two top-20 finishes in his eight tournaments this season.
Despite some problems with his putter, he ranks in the top 25 in the field of Strokes Gained: Tee-to-Green, Strokes Gained: Approach and Total Strokes Gained over his last 20 rounds. He finished T33 last week at THE PLAYERS to continue his recent success.
On this course, he is three-for-five making the cut with a pair of top-25 finishes and a personal-best T10 last year.
Glover’s course history is even more extensive since he is playing this event for the 20th time. He has made the cut 14 times with an impressive seven top-25 finishes. Glover posted his second T3 of the season last week at THE PLAYERS matching his T3 from the AT&T Pebble Beach. However, he has also missed the cut three times in his eight events.
Glover is more boom-or-bust, so I’m giving Poston the slight edge in this trio, although Glover’s course history makes him a strong option as well.
Stephan Jaeger (+175)
Jaeger is matched up with Keith Mitchell (+170) and Thomas Detry (+175) in a very even trio. All three of these players are almost the same odds to win the tournament and the same values in DFS, so this should be a close call anda. fun trio to track.
Last week, Jaeger bounced back from a missed cut at Bay Hill with a strong T20 at THE PLAYERS Championship while Detry and Mitchell both missed the cut. Detry also missed the cut at Bay Hill, while for Mitchell it was his first missed cut of the year.
Mitchell has strong course history at Copperhead with three made cuts in three events and a top-20 last year. He finished T17 along with Detry, while Jaeger skipped this event. In 2023, he finished T27 last year after sharing the lead after getting off to a fast start in Round 1.
Jaeger ranks 16th in the field in Total Strokes Gained over his last 12 rounds and fifth in Strokes Gained: Putting. Even more important for the course layout at Copperhead, he also ranks in the top 20 on Strokes Gained: Approach in those rounds.
Of the three players, the German has been the most consistent this season, making the cut in six of his eight events, highlighted by three top-25 finishes including a T3 at the Sony Open and a T6 at the Mexico Open. He’ll look to build on last week’s momentum and post another strong finish at Copperhead.
With both Mitchell and Detry stumbling a little, I think Jaeger is the best bet in this trio.
