The brackets have been revealed, and before we officially get underway into the 2025 March Madness tournament, the first four is here. The first matchup of Wednesday’s first four slate features the American University Eagles against the Mount St. Mary’s Mountaineers. American is the Patriot League champion, while Mount St. Mary’s won the MAAC as a four-seed in its conference.

Here is my pick for Wednesday’s first four-matchup between American University and Mount St. Mary’s.

American vs. Mount St. Mary’s (6:40 p.m. ET)

American University is in March Madness for the first time since the 2013-14 season. At that time, American made it to the tournament’s second round. This is only the fourth time in program history that the Eagles are dancing. On Wednesday at 6:40 p.m. ET, American will play Mount St. Mary’s with the opportunity to face the No.1 seed Duke Blue Devils in the round of 64.

The Eagles are the favorite at -2.5 on DraftKings Sportsbook. Although American is the favorite, this line is very close. Mount Saint Mary’s is +124 on the moneyline. American is led by fifth-year forward Matt Rogers, averaging 17 points per contest this season. Rogers is coming off a big performance with 25 points and eight rebounds in the Patriot League championship against Navy.

Mount St. Mary’s struggled during the middle of the season but has come on strong to close the season. The Mountaineers have won four straight games and nine of their last eleven. Doloa Adebayo and Dallas Hobbs lead the way for Mount St. Mary’s, and each averages over 12.5 points per game. Rogers has led the Eagles to a dominant season in the Patriot League, and they seem to be the more complete team.

College Basketball Pick: American -2.5
