It was once sunny in Philadelphia after Paul George was brought in to team up with Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey in the offseason. The 76ers were title contenders and the over/under on wins was 51.5. DK Sportsbook had Philadelphia at +900 to win it all and -3000 to make the playoffs.
Currently, the 76ers have a 23-44 record and are 12th in the Eastern Conference.
Embiid only played 19 games before being shut down for the season. Maxey has played 52 games, but missed the last seven contests, and there’s a good chance he’s done for the season as well.
George has been out for the last six games. On Monday, ESPN’s Shams Charania reported the George is expected to be out for the rest of the season after receiving injections in his adductor and knee.
Ricky Council IV and Justin Edwards should continue soaking up most of the forward minutes. Oshae Brissett should be involved as well, but he’s on a 10-day contract.
The biggest beneificiary remains Quentin Grimes, who has donned the cape and put on the crown to be the offensive alpha for Philadelphia. Unless the 76ers shut him down, Grimes should continue feasting. Over the last eight games, Grimes has averaged 26.4 points, 4.6 rebounds, 4.6 assists, 2.1 steals and 2.9 treys.
