Let’s breakdown a matchup between two national contenders playing for a place in the SEC Championship Game.
Tennessee vs. Auburn (1:00pm ET)
Auburn has had a tremendous season thus far, but history tells us these Bruce Pearl teams can lose some steam down the stretch, and I don’t think this season will be any different. I’m kicking myself for not backing Ole Miss getting double digits on Friday, as the Rebels were able to take the Tigers down to the wire, with Auburn needing a Johni Broome bucket to seal a five-point win.
Auburn limped into the SEC Tournament losers of its last two regular season games, after clinching the SEC regular season title. It’s tough to turn that switch back on once its off, especially against the elite of the SEC. The Tigers are now on an 0-3 ATS run, and face a Tennessee squad that matches up very well. The Vols went on the road to Auburn shorthanded back in January, and had a chance to win the game late. Tennessee was fantastic in mucking the game up and limiting the Tigers offensively, but the Vols ultimately fell short by a score of 53-51.
Now Tennessee gets a chance to avenge that loss on a neutral floor, and are catching Auburn at the right time. The Vols have played well as an underdog this season, going 3-1 ATS, including the cover against Auburn. Look for Rick Barnes’ veteran roster to play one of the more physical games of the year and have a shot to win this game.
