The Rangers’ starting rotation took another loss on Friday when Jon Gray was struck on the arm by a line drive off the bat of Michael Toglia.

The right-handed pitcher suffered a fractured right wrist, and his exact timetable to return will be determined by whether he requires surgery. The injury occurred in his third game of spring training, and he had given up no runs on eight hits over eight innings with five strikeouts.
Fantasy baseball impact
Last year, Gray went 5-6 with a 4.47 ERA, 3.70 FIP and 7.5 K/9, and he was expected to be a key part of the Rangers’ rotation again this season. That rotation will already be stretched thin with Cody Bradford (elbow) also starting the season on IL.
Jacob deGrom is coming back from injury and will need to anchor the rotation along with Nathan Eovaldi, who has also battled multiple injuries throughout his career. The rotation will now have to rely heavily on prospects Kumar Rocker and Jack Leiter to step into open spots with Tyler Mahle (forearm) hopefully filling the other spot if he can avoid the IL after undergoing Tommy John surgery in 2024.
Other options for the Rangers in the rotation include expected long reliever Dane Dunning and veteran Adrian Houser, who is currently in camp on a minor league deal.
