Louisville vs. Stanford pick, prediction for ACC Tournament Quarterfinal

The Battle of the Cardinal(s)! The bird and the pine tree in which it resides. Gotta love it. Louisville unquestionably enters this ACC Tournament with the better momentum as opposed to Stanford, closing the regular season on an eight-game winning streak, including statement victories over North Carolina and Duke. But Stanford isn’t about to go down quietly. I’ll break down my preview, prediction, pick, and best bet for this quarterfinal college basketball game between Louisville and Stanford in the ACC tournament tonight.

Here’s how I intend to play this primetime ACC skirmish. I’ll be picking individual games throughout the week, with plenty of coverage here on DraftKings Network. Follow my handle @dansby_edits for more to-the-minute, point-of-need analyses and plays throughout conference tournament week.

Louisville vs. Stanford preview, prediction

Stanford has shown flashes of offensive explosiveness under first-year head coach Kyle Smith, finishing the regular season 19-10 overall and 11-7 in ACC play. Their recent 78-73 victory over California saw Maxime Raynaud and Jaylen Blakes combine for 44 points, reinforcing their ability to score in bunches. However, inconsistency has plagued them all season, particularly against top-tier competition—they’re just 2-8 against ACC teams with winning records, and their defensive lapses have repeatedly cost them against stronger offensive teams. When Stanford’s outside shooting clicks, they can keep pace with anyone, but their 33.4% three-point percentage in conference play has made that a dicey proposition.

Meanwhile, Louisville has been one of the ACC’s most disciplined teams, finishing 25-6 overall and 18-2 in conference play in Pat Kelsey’s first season. Their success is built on defensive efficiency, ranking second in the ACC in opponent field goal percentage (40.8%) and first in rebounding margin at +7.4. Louisville has leaned on their depth all season, with five players averaging double figures, but it’s been senior forward Brandon Huntley-Hatfield who has elevated his play in recent weeks, averaging 16.8 points and 9.2 rebounds over his last five games. Their ability to control tempo and dominate the glass has translated into wins against elite competition, with victories over Duke, North Carolina, and Virginia—teams that have given Stanford trouble.

The one potential counter for Stanford? Their three-point shooting, which sits at a strong 37.8% on the season, could keep them in striking distance if they get hot from deep.

Stanford at Louisville pick, best bet

Louisville unquestionably enters this ACC Tournament with the better momentum between these two squads, closing the regular season on an eight-game winning streak, including statement victories over North Carolina and Duke. Their defense has been suffocating down the stretch, holding opponents to just 39.6% shooting over their last six games. And their rebounding dominance has only improved, with a +9.1 margin in that span.

Louisville’s dominance on the glass and defensive intensity ranks 12th nationally in total rebounding (40.2 RPG). They’ve held opponents to just 31.4% shooting from three-point range over their last ten games. Their transition game has also been lethal, averaging 17.6 fast-break points per game, and they force turnovers at a top-50 rate nationally, capitalizing on opponents’ mistakes with efficient scoring in transition.

Offensively, Huntley-Hatfield’s interior presence (averaging 15.8 PPG and 9.7 RPG over his last six games) has complemented Clark’s perimeter shooting, where he’s hit 42.3% from deep in conference play. Meanwhile, Stanford’s struggles against high-pressure defenses are glaring—they rank outside the top 200 in turnover rate and have coughed up 15+ turnovers in four of their last five losses. The Cardinal also allow opponents to shoot 51.2% on two-pointers, which could be disastrous against Louisville’s aggressive attacking offense.

Louisville covers and moves on.

Best bet: Louisville -10.5 (-110)
