Jason Day is +6000 to win THE PLAYERS Championship, +900 to finish in the top 5 and +450 to finish in the top 10.
THE PLAYERS Championship is played at TPC Sawgrass in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida. TPC Sawgrass is a Pete Dye-designed par 72 golf course and ranges 7,352 yards. This is the PGA TOUR’s signature event and features a full field of 144 players. There is a standard 36-hole cut with the top-65 and ties making the weekend. The greens are Bermudagrass and the course requires precision on nearly every shot. Scottie Scheffler has won back-to-back PLAYERS Championships and is looking to be the first player ever to three-peat the event. The field for the PLAYERS features 48 of the world’s top 50 golfers and while almost anyone can win on Tour in a given week, a top player almost always wins this event. The past five PLAYERS champions have all been top-10 players in the world in the week leading up to the event.
Jason Day was once the No. 1 player in the world but disappeared from the golf world for several years. However, over the past three seasons, he has had a real career resurgence. Since the start of the 2023 PGA TOUR season, Day has played in 50 events and he has finished in the top 25 in 24 of those events and in the top 10 14 times. Day has been able to compete in competitive fields against the world’s best golfers and consistently finish in the top 10 and top 20. Already this season, Day finished T-3 at The American Express and T-8 at last week’s Arnold Palmer Invitational. Jason Day’s game is in a great spot heading into THE PLAYERS and he should be ready to compete.
Day’s game is in a great spot but he is also one of the most experienced players on the PGA TOUR who is still regularly competing. Day has competed in THE PLAYERS Championship 14 times in his career and has had a lot of success. He has finished inside the top 20 in six of his 14 career starts at TPC Sawgrass, including a win in 2016. Day has all of the traits needed to succeed at Sawgrass, but it’s really his consistent putting that has made him such a reliable player. Last season, Day finished ninth on Tour in strokes gained putting and sixth in one-putt percentage. Between his great career success at Sawgrass and his recent form, Day should come into this tournament with boatloads of confidence.
