The Los Angeles Lakers travelled to Boston on Saturday and exited their game against the Celtics bruised and battered, literally. Not only did they lose the game, 101-111, and LeBron James for at least a week, but Luka Doncic ($12,000) and Jaxson Hayes ($5,000) are now questionable for Monday’s contest against the Brooklyn Nets, while Dorian Finney-Smith has been ruled out.
There were times during Saturday’s game when Doncic looked to have difficulty moving, but he still played 37 minutes and ended with 34 points, 8 rebounds, 3 assists and a steal despite starting the game slow.
Doncic has been garnering a 36% usage rate since joining the Lakers, and that number could be ticking up with James now out of action. If Doncic is unable to go on Monday, then Gabe Vincent ($4,500) would likely enter the starting lineup while Austin Reaves ($7,500) would shoulder more offensive responsibility, a role that he’s familiar with. Jordan Goodwin ($3,800) and Shake Milton ($3,400) will likely see significant action if Doncic is unable to go.
Hayes missed Friday’s game due to a knee injury. He is also questionable. His return would provide some much needed size and athleticism, something that would be needed against Nic Claxton ($5,500). If Hayes is unable to go, the Trey Jemison III ($3,000) would likely start. He only played six minutes off the bench in Boston, but Finney-Smith is out, which will likely force J. J. Redick’s hand a bit, especially since Rui Hachimura is also out.
The loss of Finney-Smith is a big one, as he’s been a starter and one of the more versatile defenders for the Lakers. Jarred Vanderbilt could get the nod for Finney-Smith, as he best replicates the length and defensive versatility, but his perimeter scoring prowess is suspect. Redick could go small and insert Dalton Knecht ($4,400).
The Lakers next play a back-to-back on Thursday and Friday, so the team may elect for rest until then.
