On Friday night, Chiefs WR Xavier Worthy was arrested in Williamson County, Texas, which is part of the greater Austin area. He was charged with a criminal charge of assault against a family or household member by impeding their breathing or circulation.

Here’s the report from Will Kunkel of Fox26 Houston:

No further details are available at this time regarding the incident, although the Chiefs said they are “aware and gathering information,” according to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero.

This is a developing situation but could have a huge impact on Worthy’s career.

He attended Texas University in Austin and was drafted by the Chiefs with the No. 28 overall pick in last year’s NFL Draft. In his rookie season, he had 59 catches for 638 yards and six touchdowns in the regular season while adding 104 rushing yards and three more touchdowns on the ground. In the playoffs, he caught 19-of-21 targets for 287 yards and three touchdowns, including two in the Super Bowl.

It’s too early to speculate what this could mean for Worthy’s availability this season, but both the NFL and the Chiefs have dealt with domestic violence situations in the past with a wide variety of punishments, depending on the details of the situation.
