On Saturday afternoon, Alabama gets a crack at revenge when it travels to Auburn to face the No. 1 team in the country. Let’s break the game down below.
Alabama at Auburn (2:30pm ET)
I was on the wrong side of this matchup a few weeks ago on Tuscaloosa, jumping on Alabama as a short home underdog. The Tide wound up closing the favorite, but got off to a slow start and ultimate lost by nine points. Now the scene shifts to Auburn for the regular season finale, with much more on the line for ‘Bama.
It’s a pretty interesting spot for both heavyweights here, with Auburn coming off a loss, and Alabama is off two consecutive losses. Auburn’s situation is a bit more explainable, as the Tigers clinched the top-seed in the SEC last weekend. They had to go on the road mid-week to face a Texas A&M team riding a losing streak, in desperate need of a victory. In was a clear letdown spot for the SEC Champs, and that’s exactly what happened.
The question is, does Auburn want to dig deep for the in-state rivalry game? The Tigers should have the No. 1 overall seed in the NCAA Tournament locked up, and have championship dreams to stay focused on. Denver Jones is battling a foot injury, and Johni Broome has had recent ankle and shoulder injuries. It’s worth questioning why the Tigers wouldn’t save something in the tank moving forward here.
Meanwhile, ‘Bama’s home loss to Florida makes it much more difficult to see the Tide getting a No. 1-seed in the NCAA Tournament. Unless, of course, they can get a road win at Auburn. Off consecutive losses and with revenge on their mind from their rivals beating them in Tuscaloosa, I’m expecting to see the best from Nate Oats’ squad on Saturday.
Alabama is 7-4 ATS on the road this season, including 4-1 ATS as a road underdog. Look for the Tide to keep this one close.
College Basketball Pick: Alabama +8.5 (-108) 1-unit
