The Paul Skenes MLB Debut Patch card from the 2024 Topps Chrome Update set is now up for auction. In what many consider the most coveted baseball card in recent memory, the card is already at six-figures as of Friday morning. 52 bids have been placed as of 11 a.m. on Friday, March 7th, reaching $360,000.
The story goes that the card was pulled by an 11-year-old collector who opened packs with his family on Christmas. In a move that I love from Topps, the card was placed in the set as a redemption, ensuring the actual Paul Skenes MLB Debut Patch card was in pristine condition. Accordingly, when the actual card was sent to PSA for grading, it came back as a dual 10/10. After much deliberation, the card was sent to be auctioned off by Fanatics Collects, which will run until March 20th.
It’s almost a guarantee this card will reach the seven-figure mark, especially after the strong opening numbers from the early bids. Nonetheless, all eyes will be on this auction over the next couple of weeks.
Other MLB Debut Patches are currently up for auction, including the 2024 Topps Jackson Holliday, which has a current bid of $46,000 with 13 days remaining. While not expected to reach the heights of Skenes, this is also considered one of the top MLB Debut Patches since Topps debuted this concept in 2023.
