Baylor at TCU (8:00pm ET)
Fresh off three straight losses in games that were all considered win-able, Baylor protected home court on Saturday in a must-win game. The Bears defeated Oklahoma State by 10 points, but failed to cover against one of the weaker teams in the conference. Now Baylor has to go back on the road, which has been an absolute train wreck. The Bears are a Big 12-worst 1-7-2 ATS in true road games, with a -7.6 margin in points per game, failing to cover by nearly five points on average. While this is more of a Baylor fade, TCU checks out as a solid enough home team to back here — 14-2 SU and 2-1 ATS as a home underdog (covering by 3.5 PPG). The Frogs played Baylor very tough back in January in Waco, falling by just three points as a double-digit road dog.
College Basketball Pick: TCU +3.5 (-110) 1-unit
West Virginia at Utah (9:00pm ET)
The Utes have been tremendous at home this season, sitting at 15-3 straight up, thriving even further as a home favorite. Utah is a Big 12-best 10-4 ATS when priced as the home favorite, with a win margin of 21.4 points per game — covering by 3.7 PPG. West Virginia has been fine on the road this season, sitting at 5-5 ATS. But the Mountaineers have been priced as a dog in every roach game they’ve played, and have a point differential of -8.2 PPG. That doesn’t bode well for them, heading into what’s statistically one of the most difficult places to play in the conference. WVU didn’t fare well in its first try on this road trip out west, falling to BYU by 21 points on Saturday night in a similar environment as a 10-point dog. Utah, which is just 1-8 on the road this season, will be looking to avenge a loss last month in Morgantown.
College Basketball Pick: Utah -3.5 (-110) 1-unit
New Mexico at Nevada (9:00pm ET)
I’m trusting a road team here, as this sets up as a strong spot for New Mexico against a Nevada squad that hasn’t proven it deserves this kind of respect at home. I’ve been backing a lot of home teams in the Mountain West recently, but that strategy really only works when we have the big dogs doing battle. Nevada doesn’t belong in that conversation. The Wolfpack are just 11-5 on their home floor this season, and 0-4 overall when priced as an underdog — which they’ve shifted too since opening the favorite. The Lobos have been an elite road team this season, but have run into stiff competition lately. Prior to dropping consecutive recent road games as underdogs at Boise State and San Diego State, New Mexico started the season 6-2 in true road games. Those road trips included a loss to Saint John’s, and outright wins as an underdog at UCLA, Colorado State and Utah State. Look for the Lobos to return to form on the road here and come out of Nevada with the W.
College Basketball Pick: New Mexico ML (+100) 1-unit
