As we ease into March we’re starting to see the first teams who qualify as championship contenders under Phil Jackson’s proposed 40/20 rule, which legitimizes teams who reach at least 40 wins before losing 20. Of course, this isn’t a hard and fast rule, but rather a rough estimate to see which teams we could be taking seriously. There are only four teams who have achieved this feat this season: the OKC Thunder, CLE Cavaliers, BOS Celtics, and NY Knicks. Throughout the NBA, only four teams have won a championship despite not qualifying for the 40/20.
But it’s tough to look at teams like the DEN Nuggets and think that they aren’t contenders, especially when they’re anchored by the current most dominant force in all of basketball in Nikola Jokic. The same sentiment can be applied to other teams such as the Bucks or Warriors, who house a game-breaking superstar but don’t have the standout record as one of the four teams listed above.

Here are some sell-highs we can consider.
Sell ’em
Josh Giddey, PG/SG/SF, Chicago Bulls
Giddey has been on an absolute heater ever since the All-Star Break, and has compiled averages of 22.2 PPG, 10.8 RPG, and 8.5 APG over his last six games. This includes shooting 50.6% from the field and 85% from the line. Over this sample, he’s also cashed 57% of his attempts from beyond-the-arc. Giddey isn’t an elite three point shooter and this efficiency will crater sooner.
There is room for optimism here, though. Ayo Dosunmu has been ruled out for the season. Giddey’s path to fantasy stardom, at least for the rest of this season, is abundantly clear. While he may not get there in the fashion in which he currently is, he will be a strong counting stats provider the rest of the way. I think you could get a haul here.
Toumani Camara, SG/SF, Portland Trail Blazers
The young Belgian wing has been stellar in his last six games, posting averages of 16 PPG, 6.3 RPG, and 2.5 SPG. He’s going to be impactful for the Blazers down the stretch but he’s quite clearly not this good. His shooting percentages are a touch too high – particularly his free throw percentage – and will regress sooner or later.
Jaden McDaniels, SF/PF, Minnesota Timberwolves
Now that Julius Randle is back, McDaniels’ inflated playing time will suffer. He’s averaging a career-high 32.4 MPG but otherwise hasn’t been that impressive this season offensively. McDaniels is averaging 18.8 PPG over his last six games alongside 9 RPG but will likely regress back to his 12 PPG role once Randle settles in.
