Luis Gil Injury Update: Expected to miss three months

UPDATE: Per Yankees manager Aaron Boone, Luis Gil is now expected to miss at least three months due to his lat injury.

Gil felt some pain during a bullpen session this past Friday and after further evaluation, the pitcher has been diagnosed with a high-grade lat strain and he won’t throw for at least six weeks, per Aaron Boone. A more concrete timeline is expected to be released soon, but Gil will miss at least the early stages of this upcoming season.

Last year, Gil was named the AL’s Rookie of the Year, thanks to a 15-7 record, 3.5 ERA and 171 strikeouts in his 151.2 innings pitched. The Yankees had extremely high hopes for Gil in his second season, and with him sidelined, Marcus Stroman is the top candidate to take Gil’s spot in New York’s rotation.

The Yankees still have a strong rotation even with Gil missing and on DraftKings Sportsbook, New York carries the third-best odds to win the 2025 World Series at +800.
