PG/SG Bub Carrington, Washington Wizards at Miami Heat, $5,000
With Jordan Poole (elbow) ruled out on Saturday night, Carrington received his first start since prior to the All-Star break. Thanks to shooting just 3-for-11 from the field, it wasn’t a massive performance from the rookie, but Carrington still finished with 11 points, five rebounds, four assists and 28.75 FPTS. It’s a showing that lines up perfectly with Carrington’s career marks as a starter, as the 19-year-old is averaging 10.1 points, 4.7 rebounds and 4.6 assists in the 40 games he’s been in Washington’s starting five. While the Heat aren’t an ideal matchup from a pace perspective, there should be a lot of usage available on Monday for Carrington and the rest of the Wizards’ secondary scoring options. Poole owns the team’s highest usage rate by a wide margin (28.8%), Malcolm Brogdon (ankle) is also sidelined and, finally, Khris Middleton ($5,700) remains on a pretty strict minutes restriction. Look for Carrington to take advantage.
SG/SF Malik Beasley, Detroit Pistons at Utah Jazz, $5,000
It’ll be interesting to see how the Pistons decide to fill the void of Tobias Harris (personal), who has been ruled out for tonight’s contest in Utah. Harris hasn’t missed a game since all the way back on December 16 — a time when Detroit’s roster was slightly different — so it’s unclear which player will fill the veteran’s spot in the starting five. Beasley would be the obvious choice, but the wing has thrived as the Pistons’ sixth man and J.B. Bickerstaff might want to keep him in that role. Regardless of whether or not Beasley draws his 13th start of 2024-25 on Monday, the 28-year-old should be viable in DFS with some added opportunity. In that mid-December contest against the Heat, Beasley logged 40.7 minutes and scored a team-high 28 points. For the season as a whole, Beasley is averaging 16.7 points and shooting an eye-popping 42.7% from three. That’ll play perfectly in a matchup with a Jazz squad that is surrendering the most FPTS per game to opposing shooing guards.
C Dwight Powell, Dallas Mavericks vs. Sacramento Kings, $3,900
This is going to be interesting. With Moses Brown’s 10-day contract expiring on Sunday, and the continued injury absence of both Daniel Gafford (knee) and Dereck Lively II (ankle), Powell will be the only available center on Dallas’ roster on Monday night. I’d assume that translates into the veteran drawing the start, something he’s done 251 other times as a member of the Mavericks. Powell returned from his own injury on February 25 and has looked decent in the three games he’s played since, producing a respectable 0.87 FPTS per minute. Powell has exceeded 20 minutes of action just once in 2024-25, yet that feels like a reasonable outcome this evening considering the circumstances. With a price tag below $4,000, I’ll take my chances that the 33-year-old can still have a fantasy impact.
