In a fun Sunday night matchup in the Western Conference, the Timberwolves head to the desert to face the Suns in Phoenix. The Suns continue to sink in the West, dropping out of the Play-In Tournament and sitting No. 11 in the conference. The Timberwolves are 3 1/2 games ahead of the Suns and are currently No. 9. Both teams will look to push for the playoffs over the next few weeks, so getting a win on Sunday would give their chances a boost. In what should be a good matchup of two teams with playoff hopes, let’s take a look at my top three Timberwolves vs. Suns prop bets from the player prop market on DraftKings Sportsbook.
The Suns are 1.5-point home favorites on DraftKings Sportsbook in this matchup, which has a point total of 232. Neither team is on either half of a back-to-back, but the Timberwolves will be without Rudy Gobert (back). Julius Randle (groin) and Anthony Edwards (calf) are questionable, with Edwards looking to return after serving a one-game suspension on Friday. For the Suns, Bradley Beal (calf) is questionable, and Grayson Allen (foot) is probable.
Best Prop Bets for Timberwolves vs. Suns on DraftKings Sportsbook
Devin Booker over 7.5 assists (-125)
The Suns had lost three straight games before beating the Pelicans on Friday and are just 3-10 over their last 13 games. Even though the team has been struggling, Booker has 8+ assists in each of his last seven games and is averaging 6.9 assists per game this season.
With Beal or without him, Booker has been running the offense very effectively, which is why this is one of the player props I like regardless of Beal’s status. Booker has been playing a very heavy workload, logging at least 35 minutes in six straight games since the All-Star break.
In his last matchup with the Wolves, he had eight assists in January, but he only had seven assists in their first matchup, but that was back in November. Given how many dimes he has handed out lately, I’ll take Booker at this level in what should be a very competitive contest.
Naz Reid 10+ rebounds (+140)
The Timberwolves’ scoring is a little hard to figure out with Randle and Edwards uncertain, but without Gobert, Reid should stay very involved even if Randle returns. Instead of attacking a scoring prop, though, I like Reid to get double-digit rebounds.
On the season, Reid is averaging 6.0 rebounds per game, which is why this prop is available at such a nice number. Recently, though, Reid has done great work on the glass. He has at least 10 boards in four straight games and six of his last seven.
His minutes could be reduced when Randle is back, but he should still stay involved enough to hit this number on a regular basis with Gobert out. In his six games this season without Gobert, Reid has averaged 11.0 rebounds.
Nick Richards to record a double-double (+240)
On the other side of this matchup, Richards is a good longshot play to post a double-double. He has started the last 19 games in a row for the Suns since coming over in a trade from the Hornets. He is averaging 8.7 points and 9.7 rebounds in those 19 games while playing just 22.8 minutes per contest.
Richards has posted four double-doubles in his last seven games including each of his last two games against the Pelicans, posting 10 points and 16 rebounds on Thursday followed by 19 points and 12 boards on Friday.
The Timberwolves without Rudy are not as intimidating down low. John Collins had 29 points and 12 boards against them on Friday while Walker Kessler also came up just one point short of a double-double as well. LeBron and Luka both had double-doubles with rebounds on Thursday, and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander had a double-double with rebounds on Monday.
Richards doesn’t always get enough minutes to be a reliable pick, but at +240, he’s a great longshot to take.
