UPDATE: Randle ($6,400) intends to make his return Sunday vs. the Suns, per NBA Insider Chris Haynes. Meanwhile, Edwards ($9,000) remains questionable.
The Minnesota Timberwolves remain in the tight playoff race in the Western Conference holding a record of 32-29 on the season. They will face the Phoenix Suns tomorrow but could be doing so without Anthony Edwards who was added to the injury report as questionable with right calf soreness.
Edwards did not complete either of the previous two games for the Timberwolves. During Thursday’s matchup with the Lakers, Edwards was ejected for picking up a pair of technical fouls during the matchup. His second technical was for arguing with an official after he believed he was fouled when attempting to attack the basket.
The Timberwolves went on to lose to the Lakers 111-102 following Edwards’ exit. The three-time All-Star was then suspended for the previous matchup with the Jazz due to technical foul accumulation on the season. Edwards appealed the suspension but was unsuccessful. In fact, he was fined an additional $35,000 for failing to leave the court on time and throwing the basketball into the stands on his way to the lockerroom.
Edwards’ status will be one to monitor leading up to the game.
Minnesota did get positive injury news regarding Julius Randle. The 30-year-old has missed the past 13 games due to a groin strain. Randle was the primary return from the blockbuster trade that sent Karl-Anthony Towns to the Knicks. Across the 48 games that Randles has played he is averaging 18.9 points, 7.2 rebounds, and 4.5 assists in his 32.6 minutes per game.
This is a positive sign that Randle is no longer listed as out but keep an eye on his status leading up to tip-off to be sure it becomes official.
The Timberwolves have 21 games remaining in the regular season and will be looking to make their final push for the playoffs. This starts with the team getting fully healthy on the court and Randle’s return is a step in this direction. Keep an eye out for more updates as their statuses become more clear leading up to the game.
