NBA Power Rankings: Playoff race heats up as season enters final stretch

With just over six weeks left in the 2024-25 NBA regular season, teams are either gearing up for the playoffs or shifting focus toward the draft and offseason. After the All-Star break, rosters had a chance to get healthier, and every game matters in the fight for seeding.

In the Eastern Conference, the race for the No. 4 seed is heating up between the Milwaukee Bucks, Indiana Pacers, and Detroit Pistons, all within a game of one another. Meanwhile, the Orlando Magic, Atlanta Hawks, and Miami Heat are battling to position themselves in the play-in tournament.

The Western Conference has been highly competitive all season. While the Oklahoma City Thunder have established themselves as the top team, the race for spots six through nine remains tight, with teams separated by a game or less. The Memphis Grizzlies and Denver Nuggets are in a tight race for the No. 2 seed, while the Los Angeles Lakers are surging amid the team’s ongoing adjustment after trading for Luka Doncic. Even the fourth-ranked Houston Rockets are right in the mix.
