The NFL continues to progress to nearly a full-year cycle, with the NFL Combine next up on the schedule. The Eagles have had their Super Bowl parade and now the next major event on the NFL calendar is the 2025 NFL Combine. The event will be held in Indianapolis from Thursday, Feb. 27th to Sunday, March 2nd.
Each athlete invited to participate in the combine will be evaluated based on how they perform in various events, such as the 40-yard dash, 3-cone drill, 20-yard shuffle, vertical jump, broad jump and bench press.
Here is a look at the o/u for the longest broad jump at the 2025 NFL Combine:
Broad Jump Testing Rules:
The broad jump is one of the most highly anticipated events at the combine every year. It is a chance for players at every position to display their explosiveness and athleticism. The rules for the broad jump are very similar. The player starts from a standing position and jumps out as far as they can. However, the important part is the landing. Many players will attempt a massive broad jump but stumble upon landing. The athlete must keep their feet planted upon landing in order for the broad jump to count.
NFL Combine Broad Jump Record:
The NFL Combine has produced some incredible performances in the broad jump over the years. However, none was more stunning than Byron Jones in 2015. The former University of Connecticut defensive back had a broad jump of 12’3,” eight inches longer than anyone had done before. Jones went on to become an All-Pro safety for the Cowboys and signed a massive contract with the Dolphins before injuries, unfortunately, ended his career prematurely.
The same year as Jones’ incredible performance, WR Chris Conley had an 11’7″ broad jump, tying the previous record set by LB Jamie Collins in 2013. In 2024, former Texas defensive back and Commanders UDFA signing Tyler Owens recorded the second-longest broad jump in combine history at 12’2.” Among the top-13 broad jumps in combine history, six players have been defensive backs, five have been wide receivers and three have been outside linebackers. These are usually the most athletic positions across the board, so it is unsurprising the same rings true for the broad jump.
Who Will Record the Longest Broad Jump?
The over/under at DraftKings Sportsbook for the longest broad jump is set at 138.5 inches. Tyler Owens was the only player to clear that at the 2024 combine. However, in 2021, 2022 and 2023, that number was not cleared, so Owens was a bit of an outlier in that sense. You would need to go back to Michigan WR Donovan Peoples-Jones in 2020 to see the last time a player cleared 138.5 inches until Owens did it last year. However, there are also outlier years like 2019, where three athletes cleared the number in Emanuel Hall, Miles Boykin and Juan Thornhill.
This season there are a lot of great athletes that could push that 138.5-inch number. South Carolina safety Nick Emmanwori has a personal record of 136 inches from last summer, so with the training he has been doing for the combine, he is certainly a name to watch that could clear this number. ECU CB Shavon Revel Jr., Nebraska CB Tommi Hill and Central Arkansas OLB David Walker are some other players to look out for that could put on incredible displays in the broad jump and at the combine overall.
